With the expansion of Big Spring Park coming this year, its an excellent time to expand the park even further by closing a small section of Church Street to regular car traffic.

Rather than a road for thru traffic, church street should be a route for cyclists and pedestrians to safely travel through and across the park. Removable bollards can be placed to allow food trucks and other vendors through during events to set up. Automated bollards could even be put in place to allow emergency vehicles or city buses through to allow for faster response times.

Closing this section of Church Street is not a new and untested idea. This road is already regularly closed for events. Below are two examples of this; Panoply and Big Spring Jingle.

Big spring park is split in half. Its time to stitch the two halves back together. Closing this section of road to regular car traffic will reduce noise & air pollution, make it safer to cross, and creates a safe route for bike traffic. Removable barriers will allow events like food truck friday and Panoply to continue to use the road. It also continues to allow emergency vehicles access.

If elected as councilman, I will seek to implement these changes to further improve the greatest downtown park in the state.
